Flying thirty thousand feet above sea level on a return flight home one evening, I caught a glimpse of the full moon in the night sky. It was huge and perfectly round, and it seemed to be traveling with me. It was so close that I imagined, with a slight course adjustment, the plane might actually land on it.
It brought to mind a curiosity, wondering how close I’ve been to my bigger visions yet never really adjusting to meet them. How many times have I just ridden alongside them, observing from a safe distance? How many times have I told myself they aren’t within my reach?
Looking out from my window seat, I could feel the magnetic pull of the full moon on my being. I could see her light reflected on the wing of the plane, which seemed to stir the light within me. I began thinking about the creative dreams I still had bubbling in my mind, the ones that I had dabbled in but never really took seriously. They still surfaced from time to time, and all I could greet them with were thoughts of I’m too old. I’ve missed my opportunity.
But am I too old? Have I really missed my opportunity? Is it too late to reroute myself?
These were questions I decided to take into my journal as I took in the full moon light on my final two hours home.
The Full Moon Within
Living on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, it’s not unusual to see a huge full moon rising over the horizon, whether it’s the ocean or the main roadway; it’s a glorious sight. Never have I witnessed the moon in such an exquisite way. The vastness of her light always makes it feel that I’m just a few steps away from walking or driving onto her surface.
In one particular instance, I was in my car on my way to an evening meeting. I came up over the horizon, and the moon caught me by surprise, so much so that I had to pull over to take it all in. It was massive and so close to the earth, and I couldn’t believe that no other cars had pulled over to join me. It was just the moon and me, connecting face-to-face. And in that moment, I could feel the full moon within activating the light inside me.
And it was in that energy that creative dreams that had been dormant began resurfacing, this time with a feeling that it was really up to me. How strong was my desire to revisit an aspiration that I was convinced had passed me by?

This is your moment! Will you order it? Will you tell the universe, “Yes, this is the right time for me. I’ll take it.”
And then the clerk says, “Would you like to supersize that?”
